We're excited to introduce the alpha version of Windfall Battery -the first battery designed for flats and smaller homes. It automatically charges when energy is cleanest and cheapest. These alpha prototypes integrate seamlessly with your existing Windfall dashboard, appearing alongside your smart plugs with the same environmental and cost optimization insights you're already familiar with.
The Windfall Battery dashboard provides comprehensive monitoring of your energy storage performance, showing power flow, charge levels, and battery state over time. Just like with smart plugs, you'll see how your battery usage aligns with grid carbon emissions and energy pricing, giving you complete visibility into the environmental and economic impact of your energy storage decisions across your entire home energy ecosystem.
Up until now, we’ve been optimising charging to minimise grid carbon emissions. From today, we can now optimise for energy price as well. Fortunately, these mostly follow a similar curve (see the example below) as using lower-carbon energy is normally cheaper. But, with this change, we can now account for tariff nuances, like the 4-7pm surcharge on the Agile tariff.
You can now see the Agile pricing data in the app, allowing you to see how price efficient the optimisation is. This has to be enabled manually for a user for now, but we’ll add a feature soon to control your energy price yourself.
Note: if you don’t have the tariff set manually, you won’t see any changes yet.
We’ve had a few short outages over the last weeks. To resolve this, we’ve fixed the underlying issues, but we’ve also implemented an improved monitoring system.
This is a /health endpoint which can be checked with an external provider. Which checks:
If any of these fail, the endpoint will return an error, and an engineer will be alerted.
